Doug McKay has lived by that philosophy since he first stepped under the bar at age 12. Now a decorated weightlifter and experienced coach, Doug brings decades of training and competition experience to athletes of all ages.

Experience on the Platform and Beyond

Doug is more than a coach—he’s an athlete who continues to walk the walk. He is a 2025 USA Masters Weightlifting National Championships “Super Total” Bronze Medalist, a USA Weightlifting Coach (Level 1), and a Certified Weightlifting Performance Coach through the NSPA. His background also includes specialized training with the Weck Method RMTS, giving him a well-rounded foundation in strength, performance, and movement.

Why He Coaches

For Doug, coaching isn’t just about lifting heavier weights—it’s about life-changing results. He finds his greatest reward in watching athletes transform both physically and mentally through consistent, smart training. His approach is rooted in the belief that strength is the foundation for a better quality of life, no matter your age or athletic background.

Who He Works With

Doug’s athletes range from grade school kids learning the basics, to collegiate competitors, former professionals, and active adults well into their 80s. He designs every program to fit the individual—assessing mobility, past injuries, stress levels, and goals before building a plan that adapts as the athlete progresses.

Coaching Philosophy

Doug believes the barbell is the most powerful tool for long-term fitness. By focusing on full-body, compound movements that mimic natural human patterns, he helps athletes build strength, improve mobility, and develop confidence. His programs blend:

  • Strength Training

  • Olympic Lifts

  • Calisthenics

  • Accessory Movements

  • Rotational & Coiling Techniques

Every training session emphasizes technique, safety, and progression, ensuring athletes get stronger while avoiding overtraining or injury.

Beyond the Physical

Training with Doug goes beyond the gym. He teaches athletes to embrace discipline, resilience, and confidence under the barbell—skills that carry over into every part of life. His mission is simple: help you get stronger, stay active, and build the mindset to chase your goals at any age.
