Doug McKay has lived by this philosophy since he first stepped under the bar at age 12.
Now a decorated weightlifter and experienced coach, Doug brings decades of training and competition experience to athletes of all ages.
Experience on the Platform and Beyond
Doug is more than a coach—he’s an athlete who continues to walk the walk. He is a 2025 USA Masters Weightlifting National Championships “Super Total” Bronze Medalist, a USA Weightlifting Coach (Level 1), and a Certified Weightlifting Performance Coach through the NSPA.
His background also includes specialized training with the Weck Method RMTS, giving him a well-rounded foundation in teaching strength, speed and mobility.
Why He Coaches
For Doug, coaching isn’t just about lifting heavier weights—it’s about life-changing results. He finds his greatest reward in watching athletes transform both physically and mentally through consistent, smart training.
His approach is rooted in the belief that strength is the foundation for a better quality of life, no matter your age or athletic background.
It’s never too late. One client started at age 84 - and deadlifted with passion.
Who He Works With
Doug’s athletes range from grade school kids learning the basics to collegiate competitors, former professionals and active adults well into their 80s.
He designs every program to fit the individual—assessing mobility, past injuries, stress levels and goals before building a plan that adapts as the athlete progresses.
Coaching Philosophy
Doug believes that strength is the most important physical attribute. By focusing on full-body, compound movements that mimic natural human patterns, he helps athletes build strength, improve mobility and develop confidence. His programs blend:
Strength Training
Olympic Lifts
Calisthenics
Accessory Movements
Rotational & Coiling Techniques
Every training session emphasizes dialed in technique, safety and progression, ensuring athletes get stronger while avoiding overtraining or injury.
Beyond the Physical
Training with Doug goes beyond the gym. He coaches his athletes to embrace discipline with strict form, self motivation and confidence under the barbell on every rep inside every set..
His mission is to help you realize your capabilities under the bar which will certainly carry over into your everyday life.
Away from coaching his athletes , Doug enjoys world travel, summer surfing, riding his motorcycle and playing jazz piano.
At age 27 he became a Certified Freefaller and in 2021 he graduated from the only Wing Walking Academy in the world.

Doug is also the Creator of Jack Montana | Coaching Series for Men.
“No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”
